Who are we?
The Woodside Singers is a Hampshire based four-part choir which has been delighting audiences in the New Forest and Waterside areas for over 25 years. This friendly choir is open to all and its principal objective is that members should enjoy themselves singing and performing a wide range of music from Bach to the Beatles.
Where can you find us?
The choir is based at Hounsdown, on the western outskirts of Southampton, and rehearses on Monday evenings at Hounsdown School, from 7.30 to 9.00pm.
What do we sing?
Our repertoire is very wide-ranging and is tailored to the season of the year or the nature of the occasion. Our sacred music programmes include a collection of carols old and new for Christmas, and a variety of works suitable for Easter. We also have a repertoire of wedding music. On the lighter side we have concert programmes to suit every occasion – favourite ‘Golden Oldies’, songs from the shows, and the Beatles, to name but a few.
Who do we sing to?
At Christmas our Carol Concerts are in great demand and we usually sing in several Church venues around the Waterside and New Forest. On request, we also visit Hospital units with a programme of Carols, and on Christmas Eve we provide Carol Singers for several New Forest hotels. Easter music is usually sung in Church venues and in the summer we are available to attend functions, often as part of charity fund-raising events. In addition we provide Wedding Choirs and small groups of singers as requested.
What do we wear?
Formal concert dress is Black and White. This means Dinner Jacket or black suit for the men, complete with black bow tie, and long-sleeved plain white blouse and ankle length black skirt for ladies.
What else do we do?
We extend a warm welcome to newcomers to ensure they feel at home as quickly as possible. Since Monday practices don't allow much time for conversation we aim to put this right by arranging social events through the
year. These give us opportunities to get to know our not so immediate neighbours in the choir.
